Below is a list of Stanley’s Preschool  policies that are most commonly requested. These are excerpts from our Parent Handbook. Please review the Parent Handbook in order to become acquainted with our complete policy guidelines.

Attendance & Class Participation

  • Make every effort to be prompt in dropping off your child before school and picking up your child after school.
  • Keep the teachers informed of any event or changes in the routine at home which might affect your child’s behaviour.
  • Please contact the school when your child will be absent from class. Do not send the child to school if there is any question of illness, nor come in yourself if you are ill. Call the school to inform us of your child’s absence and if your child has come into contact with a communicable disease. If the absence is due to illness, please provide details of their symptoms as we must report cases of influenza to the Regional Health Unit. If your child/sibling has head lice, notify a teacher immediately.
  • On parent participation days or during field trips, parents will not bring any other children to the class or event (e.g.,siblings, etc.) unless permitted. If you cannot participate on your scheduled parent participation day, it is your responsibility to exchange days with another parent. In the playroom and on the playground, the teachers have overall responsibility for the program, teaching, discipline and health & safety measures.
  • If you have any questions about your child’s progress or the program of the school, please direct them to the teachers. You may direct questions or suggestions about the administration of the school to the Preschool Director.

Please review the Parent Handbook which gives further details about this policy.

Child Orientation Policy

At Stanley’s Preschool , it is our goal to make your child’s experience here a positive one. Our Child Orientation Policy aims to welcome new children and parents to the preschool minimizing any potential distress. Please review the Parent Handbook which gives further details about this policy including our Open House, introductory visits, gradual starts, addressing concerns and parent conferences.

Redirection

We believe that the best approach to discipline is by redirecting the children and using a positive approach. We believe in talking to the child at their level by giving reasons, alternatives and direction. Please review the Parent Handbook which gives further details about this policy including the need for a positive environment and escalation of attempts in order to remedy situations.

Service Termination

If it becomes necessary to withdraw your child from the school, parents will give notice to the Director, one month before the withdrawal. If this withdrawal is after March 31st, you forfeit all further fees. Please review the Parent Handbook which gives further details about this policy.

Administration of Medications

Stanley’s Preschool  adheres to the Day Nurseries Act, Section #37, (1) & (2) in the administration of drugs.

  • A drug/medication is administered to a child only where a parent of the child gives written authorization for the administration of the drug/medication and that, included with the authorization is a schedule that sets out the times the drug/medication is to be given and amounts to be administered.
  • A drug/medication is administered to a child only from the original container as supplied by a pharmacist or the original package and that the container or package is clearly labelled with the child’s name, the name of the drug/medication, the date of purchase and instructions for storage and administration.
  • Drugs/medications are stored as directed in a locked container (exception: asthma medication and emergency allergy medication).
