As the cooler weather approaches, so does cold and flu season. We would just like to remind you of a few guidelines that we are required to follow to help prevent the transmission of viruses. If your child has a fever, has been vomiting or has diarrhea, they must be symptom free for a minimum of 24 hours before they can return to preschool. A general guideline is that if your child is unable to participate fully in our program, including outdoor play, then they are not well enough to come to preschool. If your child is ill and will not be attending school please remember to call or email to let us know. We also need to know your child’s symptoms as we are required by Public Health to track all illnesses.

Also with the cold comes inclement weather. Stanley’s Preschool policy is to close the preschool whenever the inner-city buses for either of the Waterloo Regional School Boards (WRDSB, WCDSB) are cancelled. Please listen to 96.7 CHYM FM or 570 News in the morning.  If the buses are cancelled then school will be closed.

Children’s Clothing

Families please label your children’s clothing, especially outdoors clothes. Children come in from outdoor play, stand in the hallway, strip off everything and leave it on the floor. While we are working on self-help skills with the children, the teachers are ultimately left to sort out all the hats, mitts, boots, coats, etc. It is impossible to do when items are not labelled.

Time outdoors/gym time is very important to children! It’s a release for them-they are able to run and jump and scream and get all of their energy out! The fresh air is good for children.  They are also developing their large muscles, balance, and coordination while they play.

Lending Library

Did you know that the preschool has a lending library for your child’s use? The library is in the hallway outside the preschool. Please feel free to borrow a book – just be sure to sign it out and return it within one week.   Literacy experts say that children need to hear 1000 stories before they can begin to read themselves. Story-telling should come from the eyes as much as the mouth.

Book orders are due Nov. 28th, 29th & 30th. Please make cheques payable to Scholastic Canada Ltd or book orders can be paid online at Scholastic Canada.

Save the Date!

December 13 we are having our annual Christmas concert in the evening (more info will sent out next month). This is an evening event for the preschool classes.
